CV: Roberto Vitali

Roberto Vitali, born in 1994 in a small city of northern Italy, is a self-taught photographer with a passion for documentary and street photography. Since his teenage years he has been fascinated by the eastern European countries, especially with Russia and Ukraine.

When he moved to Berlin at the age of 19, he started to explore eastern Europe and its past. this was thanks to the fact that he has been living on the east side of the city, well known for its soviet heritage. During his stay in Berlin, he got into film photography thanks to some friends who were shooting film. After a relative gave him one of his old film cameras his journey with analog photography started and kept growing ever since.

Curatorial statement:

Roberto Vitali’s street photography brings us to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Life there seems to be good. Still, political discussions prompted people to protest in the streets on this very day in early March 2023. During his short stay, Roberto captured scenes of everyday life, documenting in a poetic and non-intrusive way the living conditions of ordinary people. His snapshots show his interest is in the people, most of whom are somehow on the move, alone, rather quiet, and inward-looking.
